Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in our country, accounting for nearly half of all cancers and affecting more people than breast, colon, prostate and lung cancers combined. Our cancer treatment program provides the full range of skin cancer treatments.
Our board-certified dermatologists provide head-to-toe evaluation for skin cancer and mole mapping and are skilled in using the latest procedures to treat skin cancer, including curettage and electrodessication, cryosurgery (freezing the tumor), topical treatments, excision and Mohs micrographic surgery.
Our board-certified surgical oncologists, head and neck surgeons and plastic surgeons provide a variety of surgical options, including wide excisions to remove deep cutaneous malignancies, digit amputations to address rare cutaneous cancers, biopsies that sample nodes for metastatic disease, lymph node dissections and skin graft and flap reconstructions.
Mohs surgery is the most thorough and effective surgical treatment for the most common forms of skin cancer. It allows for not only the lowest likelihood of recurrence but also the best cosmetic outcome. Carilion is proud to have Mohs fellowship-trained dermatologists on staff, giving members of our community access to this advanced technique without having to travel long distances.
Our team of specialists works together to provide a comprehensive, personalized treatment plan for each patient. Members of our team include:
