Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine

Didactic Sessions

In addition to extensive clinical experiences, we provide a comprehensive didactic curriculum for our psychiatry residents to promote thoughtful and relevant learning. The following is a brief summary of the didactic schedule.

There are other opportunities available to psychiatry residents including special research seminars and grand rounds in other Carilion Clinic departments.

Educational methods include lectures, tutorials/seminars, case presentations and group discussions, mock oral boards and vignettes exams, poster presentations, research projects, self-directed learning, clinical discussion with attendings, and peer interactions during patient care activities. The concept of the flipped classroom is a primary focus, emphasizing the learner-centered approach. All of these innovative ways of learning contribute to our 100% Board passing rate for our program.
