Zev Elias began practicing medicine in 1992 and has been with Carilion Clinic Neurosurgery since 2003. He received his medical degree at Temple University and completed his internship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Elias obtained his research fellowship from the National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Disorders and Stroke.<br/><br/>

Dr. Elizas clinical expertise includes adult back and neck conditions, brain tumors, degenerative spine, head injuries, pituitary tumors, trauma, and trigeminal neuralgia. He is experienced in procedures such as burrholes, cranioplasty, craniotomy, and laminectomy. He has special interest and expertise in pituitary surgery, head injury, and stereotactic radiosurgery (CyberKnife).<br/><br/>

Dr. Elias was the recipient of the Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program and inducted into the Air Force reserves. While in the Air Force, Dr. Elias completed several research projects related to laser applications in neurosurgery that went on to lead to subsequent national presentations. During Operation Desert Storm, he was deployed to Europe where he served as the chief of neurosurgery for a 1,500 bed hospital. After his service, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal. He has served in other academic affiliations as clinical associate professor of surgery at the College of Medicine at The Pennsylvania State University in Hershey, PA, and as clinical professor of Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales in Center Valley, PA.<br/><br/>

Dr. Elias is a native of Philadelphia where he lettered in varsity football at Swarthmore College. Currently, Dr. Elias is actively involved in the trauma program, the education of residents of multiple specialties, and the education of medical students at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
