Wow! We had a very successful, first-ever TEACH Education Day, held on Wednesday, October 28.
Participation was noteworthy across the board…Carilion Clinic, VTCSOM, VTCRI, and JCHS alike. Over 80 students, residents, and fellows attended the morning session; more than 100 faculty attended the lunch session; and greater than 60 educational leaders attended the 1 p.m. session. It is clear that we are all dedicated to making the health professions learning experience the very best it can be.
Below are the PowerPoints our speaker, Dr. Sarah Bean of Duke University Medical University shared at our three sessions:
It’s a 2-Way Street: Giving and Receiving Effective Feedback for Students, Residents, and Fellows
Giving and Receiving Effective Feedback: Beyond the Feedback Sandwich
Looking in the Mirror: Self-reflection, Self-assessment, and Direct Observation
Be on the lookout for other upcoming TEACH events and activities. In addition to our already underway monthly Health Professions Educator (HPE) series, Development on Demand activities, and online sessions, TEACH will offer many different venues for you to develop yourself within our growing community of educators. Over the next year, TEACH will make available the following (and more) related to education:
- Quarterly Education Grand Rounds
- Teaching Observerships
- Journal Club
- Opportunities for Scholarship
- Teaching Awards
