Quality of Care
During your hospital stay, you may be seen by a hospitalist. (Surgery, gynecology and podiatric patients may not see a hospitalist). When you are discharged, you will return to the care of your primary care physician.
Hospitalists are physicians who specialize in caring for patients in the hospital. They do not have an outpatient medical practice. Most hospitalists are general internal medicine physicians and family practice physicians. Some, however, are trained as specialists in pulmonary/critical care medicine, cardiology or other subspecialties.
Hospitalists provide a smooth recovery process by following up with your treatment plan, which is based on daily progress and test results. Our hospitalists are also familiar with every specialist and department in the hospital, which enables them to consult with other professionals who participate in your care. Consultations with others are necessary in some cases, and our hospitalists will arrange for these, too. Please be sure to notify your hospitalist if you are under the care of other doctors, so they can be informed of your hospital stay as well.
This community hospital is located in Rocky Mount, Va., and has over 270 employees. The hospital offers a wide range of medical and surgical services, including convenient outpatient and emergency department services. Fully accredited by the Joint Commission, it admits over 1,500 acute patients and treats over 21,000 emergency room patients each year.
Carilion Clinic contracts with most major health insurance carriers. We encourage you to contact your health insurance company or health benefits manager to better understand how your policy works and any financial liability that you may have, prior to receiving care.
