Carilion Clinic Updates Hospital Visitation to Green Level Restrictions

Carilion experts continue to monitor the level of COVID-19 spread in the immediate community surrounding each hospital. With the decrease in community spread, Carilion is updating hospital visitation restrictions to the green level for some facilities as early as Wednesday, May 26.

All hospitals have been at yellow level visitation restrictions since March of this year. The primary change when transitioning to green level visitation will be allowing two visitors per day for adults during an inpatient stay (previously, they were only allowed one in most cases). Other restrictions still remain to keep staff, patients and visitors safe.

Starting Wednesday, May 26, the following hospitals will move to green level visitation restrictions:

  • Carilion Giles Community Hospital
  • Carilion New River Valley Medical Center
  • Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital
  • Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
  • Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital

Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital and Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital will transition to green level visitation restrictions starting Tuesday, June 1.

This is the first time green level visitation restrictions has been implemented at Carilion hospitals since restrictions went into place March 13, 2020. Even with the exceptions noted above, anyone who is sick may not visit patients in Carilion facilities, and all visitors will continue to go through the screening process before entering any facility. While in the facility, visitors will be required to wear a mask or face covering. Shared spaces such as waiting areas and cafeterias remain closed.

“It’s encouraging to see a decrease in community spread across our region, but it continues to be critical that we remain vigilant,” said Charlotte Tyson, vice president of Hospital Operations. “Our top priority is the safety of our patients, staff and visitors. We ask that the community also do their part to stop the spread by getting their COVID-19 vaccine.”

The public is encouraged to visit vaccines.gov or vaccinate.virginia.gov to find vaccines near them. If visitors are interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccine while at Carilion, they can visit a Carilion retail pharmacy location. Calling ahead is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.
