Carilion Clinic neurosurgeons organize and actively participate in meetings and courses on a regular basis that cover the latest techniques, research, and advances in the neurosurgery field. Many times our team members are the featured lecturers at these national and international events. Some highlights from our recent meetings and courses include:
- Dr. Gary Simonds helped organize, prepare questions for, and emcee the international resident neurosurgery competition "SANS Resident Challenge" at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons National Meeting.
- Dr. Gary Simonds presented "Red Herring Cases in Neurological Surgery" at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons - Goodman Oral Boards Preparation Course. He also helped dozens of neurosurgeons prepare for their oral board examinations in three days of individual testing.
- Drs. Qandah and Simonds put on the first national Osteopathic Neurosurgical Residents "Boot Camp" at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. The two-day total immersion course was designed to rapidly familiarize junior neurosurgical residents with procedures and techniques they will use throughout their training. Dr. Fraser and several senior Carilion neurosurgery residents assisted as faculty for the event.
- Dr. Gary Simonds and five Carilion neurosurgery residents participated in the Residency Fair at the ACOS National Meeting.
