At Carilion Children's, we’re here to give the children in our community what they need to grow up healthy. If your child needs medical care due to a birth defect, illness or injury, there’s no need to travel to receive excellent care. Our full service, 92–bed “hospital within a hospital” provides medical care, including specialized intensive care, to neonatal, pediatric and adolescent patients. Our skilled staff includes more than 350 medical professionals specially trained in caring for infants and children.
We’re proud to be home to the third largest neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in the state of Virginia.
We have the region’s first emergency department devoted to caring for children who are acutely ill or injured.
We have the only pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) in western Virginia, as well as one of the largest dedicated pediatric in–patient hospital units in southwest Virginia.
We recognize that our young patients come in all shapes and sizes, and each is a unique individual. Everything from the equipment and technology used by our doctors and nurses to our décor is designed specifically with children in mind. We believe that families do the best job of helping a child heal well and we encourage your involvement in your child’s care to ensure that recovery is as quick and pain–free as possible.
Carilion Clinic contracts with most major health insurance carriers. We encourage you to contact your health insurance company or health benefits manager to better understand how your policy works and any financial liability that you may have, prior to receiving care.
