Vascular Surgery

Vascular surgeons are highly trained physicians dedicated exclusively to the care of disorders of the circulatory system, including the arteries and the veins. The arteries carry blood from the heart to the vital organs and limbs and the veins return the blood back to the heart.

Vascular surgeons help patients optimally manage conditions through diet, exercise and medication, or interventional procedures. Vascular surgeons are the only physicians trained to perform minimally invasive procedures, like angioplasty and stent placement, and traditional surgery.

If any of the noted conditions are suspected or have been diagnosed, then a vascular surgeon should be consulted. Patients who see a vascular specialist early in the disease process are more likely to have favorable outcomes.
