Mended Hearts, a national nonprofit organization affiliated with the American Heart Association, has been offering the gift of hope to heart disease patients, their families and caregivers for more than 50 years.

Recognized for its role in facilitating a positive patient-care experience, Mended Hearts partners with 460 hospitals and rehabilitation clinics and offers services to heart patients through visiting programs, support group meetings and educational forums. Learn more at mendedhearts.org.


The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) provides many state resources about heart disease prevention, wellness tips, and the impact heart disease has on Virginians.

Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans

In 2008, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services released a guide on recommended physical activity for Americans. The guide provides science-based advice to help people improve their health through appropriate physical activity. Networking to improve cardiac care, HeartNet of the Virginias has promoted excellence in cardiology in this region for 25 years.

Through the sharing of educational and technological resources, HeartNet hospitals and physicians in southwest Virginia and eastern West Virginia have improved the referral process, treatment, and follow-up care for their cardiac patients. Community education efforts, coordinated through HeartNet of the Virginias, have steadily improved the health of the communities we serve.
