TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN THE VIRGINIA TECH CARILION FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY
The Virginia Tech Carilion Family Medicine Residency is a teaching site for students from the Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College of Virginia, the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTC). Our program has been recognized as a top teaching site by our visiting students.
On hospital rotations, residents assist with medical student teaching starting in the intern year and beyond. In the outpatient setting, medical students are paired with faculty or an upper-level resident who is primarily responsible for teaching under the supervision of the faculty preceptor.
In August 2010, in partnership with Virginia Tech, Carilion Clinic opened its doors to the first class of students at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Central to the school's academic mission is developing well-rounded physicians. Not only does this endeavor round out Carilion Clinic's transformation to a clinic model providing superior patient care, cutting edge research and education, but it also provides the Family Medicine Residency with exciting growth opportunities.
