Osteopathic Training

Family Medicine residents learning

Our OMM curriculum is integrated into every aspect of the residency program. During the three year curriculum, osteopathic interns and residents are encouraged to integrate OMM into their patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Residents may have one OMM patient in each half day of their continuity clinic. additionally, during their second and third years of residency training, they will have several OMM clinics precepted by one of our osteopathic faculty. Main osteopathic topics and OMM workshops are taught during our academic half-day conferences to both osteopathic and allopathic residents. In addition, small group workshops designed to build osteopathic skills are offered both at Carilion Clinic and Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and our osteopathic residents are encouraged to attend.

Our osteopathic faculty include Priscilla Tu, D.O. and Richard Truxillo, D.O. Local community faculty also provide their expertise in Osteopathic Medicine and teach workshops at our conferences. These faculty include: David Harden, D.O., Amy Doolan, D.O., Brian Dickens, D.O., and Hope Tobey, D.O.
