TRAINING SKILLED FAMILY MEDICINE PHYSICIANS
The Virginia Tech Carilion Family Medicine Residency, a 10/10/10 program, is a dynamic, nationally respected teaching program affiliated with the University of Virginia, the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. For over 40 years, we have provided quality medical care to the people of western Virginia, while preparing family medicine leaders of tomorrow.
Our two family medical centers are equipped with the latest technology and serve as vibrant models of patient care and education to the surrounding communities.
We serve people of diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds from urban, suburban and rural areas.
Inpatient care is delivered at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH), which serves as the primary healthcare provider to the region's 250,000 residents and as a tertiary care referral center to a population of over one million people. Several PGY1 and PGY2 rotations occur at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
The Virginia Tech Carilion Family Medicine Residency prepares physicians to care for and to improve the health of individuals, families, and communities.
The Family Medicine Residency Program can be described as:
- A dynamic community focused on excellence in education and service
- An atmosphere encouraging personal and professional growth through feedback, continuous improvement, and an attitude of life-long learning
- A champion for coordination and collaboration with other professionals who are serving our patients
The Virginia Tech Carilion Family Medicine Residency is dedicated to helping our residents develop the skills necessary to practice exceptional family medicine in the future.
We envision a commitment to service, clinical competence, effective communication, the building of patient-provider relationships, collaboration, life-long learning, integrity, and a comprehensive approach to patient care.
We are a nationally recognized Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and provide training in this model.
We also believe physicians who have their foundation in these values and the skills of medical informatics, population-based medicine, health promotion/disease prevention, clinical ethics, critical thinking, continuous improvement, and healthcare management will be well prepared to practice family medicine in an ever-changing health care environment.
