Women's Health University: Balancing Life With Laughter Yoga

Thursday 11:30 am to 1:30 pm
Vinton War Memorial | 814 Washington Avenue | Vinton, VA 24179

A growing body of evidence shows that laughter is good for the mind and body. It’s increasingly being used to sustain health, help people cope with illness and strengthen relationships by bringing people together and creating positive bonds. And now there’s laughter yoga—a new exercise that may not be on your gym schedule.

You don’t need a yoga mat, though. Laughter yoga has nothing to do with stretches. It is a practice involving prolonged voluntary laughter, which is a form of breathing. If you are seeking more balance in life and enjoy laughing, join us for a session of laughter yoga. It may be the happiest workout of your life! Registration required. For more information or to register, please call 540-266-6000 or 800-422-8482.

Tod is a graduate of Lynchburg College and is certified by the Virginia Board of Nursing and the National Certification Board for therapeutic massage and bodywork. He travels to hospitals, cancer centers, schools, churches and other venues to share this wonderfully healing therapy of laughter with the local community.

Ceremonial Release of Burdens

Thursday 4:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Dr. Robert L.A. Keeley Healing Arts Garden

Join us for a ceremonial release of handwritten burdens from the Burden Boat. This event will take place at The Dr. Robert L.A. Keeley Healing Arts Garden, on the Roanoke River Greenway outside Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH).

The Burden Boat is an interactive work of art designed to help people release their burdens. The sculpture is on display in the atrium area of the lobby at CRMH, and the public is invited to write down their burdens and place them in the boat. The Burden Boat, created by artist, Kurt Steger, was acquired with contributions made to The Dr. Robert L.A. Keeley Healing Arts Program.

Learn more about the Burden Boat here.

“As the artist, I honor all those who have made the courageous choice to let go of something they may have held for moments, years, or a lifetime,” said Kurt.

At the Oct. 29 ceremonial release of burdens event that begins at 4 p.m., Chaplain Lisa Vineyard and artist Kurt Steger will lead a time of reflection while burdens are symbolically lifted.
