An activity for kids to learn about Heart, Lungs, Hair, Ears, Vision, Stomach and Teeth.  Activities and Build a cut out person will help children learn about these body parts and how to keep them healthy!

This event is for children ages 6 - 12 and is limited to (20) children, not including adults.

Navigating Ethical Issues in the Hospital

Come and join Chuck Hite, Carilion Clinic's Director of Biomedical & Research Ethics, for this Free and informative presentation.

Topics to be discussed will include:

  • Basic principles guiding ethical practices in Health Care
  • The most common ethical issues arising in the hospital including, end of life care
  • Explanation of the role - and the limitations - of Advance Directives in guiding Health Care.  
  • The definition of ethics and the rise of modern hospital ethics committees

You may also take away:

  • Advance Directive forms
  • Booklets on end of life decisions and Medical Directives.

Light Refreshments will be provided.  No registration is required!

Join Carilion Clinic Neurosurgeon Gregory Howes, D.O., to learn more about deep brain stimulation (DBS) for people who suffer from Parkinson's disease and/or essential tremor.  DBS uses a surgically implanted medical device, similar to a cardiac pacemaker, to deliver carefully controlled electrical stimulation to precisely targeted areas in the brain.

Charity Softball Game for a Great Cause

Join us as staff from Carilion Clinic take on LewisGale Medical Center staff in a fundraiser softball game to benefit the American Heart Association.

  • Tickets will be sold at the field for $6, with food and drink also for sale

All proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association and the fight against heart disease

Body Basics

Body Basics is a beginner level strengthening training session for adults.  An exercise class for individuals new to exercise who need guidance or who have a health related physical limitation to work around. These strength training classes involves standing and sitting exercises. We use hand weights and participants can stand and/or sit to perform theses exercises.

 

Weights are provided.
