Prepared Childbirth

Participants will be provided with the necessary information, education and skills needed to approach labor and birth fully prepared.  This six (6)-week series will address topics such as:

  • Breathing and relaxation techniques
  • The labor partner’s role
  • Variations of labor
  • The labor and birth process
  • Adjustment to parenthood – and many other details of labor and birth.

Participants should plan to attend this class at the beginning of their third (3rd) Trimester.  This course is taught by a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE).
Dress comfortably as you will be sitting / lying on the floor. *Please take two pillows and a blanket to each of your six Prepared Childbirth Classes.

Infant CPR and Home Safety

Learn about the basics of Infant CPR in this educational class.  This class offers hands-on training and experience in Infant CPR, but is not a Certification class.  You will also learn how-to keep your home safe for your child.  There are many hidden dangers in the home that can injure and/or kill a child.  This class will give you tips on what you can do to avoid these unnecessary incidents.

Breastfeeding, Roanoke

Breastfeeding is a learned behavior for both Mom and baby.  During this class, a Certified Lactation Consultant provides the information you will need to decide if breastfeeding is the right choice for you and your new baby.  If you have already decided to breastfeed, this class will provide basic instructions on breastfeeding techniques and benefits.  Other breastfeeding topics will also be discussed.

Low Intervention Childbirth

Turn in your unused and/or expired medications for safe disposal. No appointment is necessary - the public is welcome. Simply bring your medications to this event where they can be safely collected and destroyed by local law enforcement and DEA agents.

90 percent of teens get prescription drugs from the home medicine cabinet and friends. Participating in this drug take-back event instead of leaving medications unsecured in your home or flushing them down the toilet will help prevent drug abuse and protect your valley's waterways.
