Artists throughout the community have created Boxes for Hope and Healing to be auctioned during the Arts for Healing event. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Dr. Robert L.A. Keeley Healing Arts Program at Carilion Clinic.

The purpose of The Dr. Robert L.A. Keeley Healing Arts Program is to create restorative and calming environments for patients, visitors and staff by integrating the creative arts and aesthetic experiences into the healing process. The program offers literary, performing and visual arts experiences that represent and celebrate the cultural diversity of the communities we serve.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease Support Group

If you have Crohn's or colitis, you are not alone. This support group is open to anyone suffering from Crohn's disease or Colitis. You do not have to be a patient of Carilion Clinic and loved ones are encouraged to join as well.

A Community Event to Inspire Better Health

Join Carilion Clinic physical therapist, Logan Russell to learn specific exercises that can help alleviate back pain and strengthen your back.  Patients using these techniques have seen decreased pain, increased range of motion and even avoided surgery.  This event includes exercise demonstrations and an opportunity for you to try them out.

Logan is also trained in the McKenzie method, a comprehensive strategy focused on creating individualized self-treatment programs based on each patient's concerns.

Rebuilt by Carilion

Join us for Rebuilt by Carilion, a day-long series of events celebrating the Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences at Carilion Clinic. Rebuilt by Carilion includes educational presentations and the Rebuilt by Carilion Classic Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the golf tournament benefit the Carilion Clinic Foundation's Orthopaedics and Neurosciences Fund. The fund's purpose is to empower innovation and support research and education, with a focus on improving outcomes for our patients.

Registration deadline is Friday, April 22.

Educational Presentations

Time: 10 a.m. - noon

Location: Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences at Carilion Clinic, 2332 Franklin Road SW, Roanoke, VA 24014

Presentations include:

  • “Joint Preservation - How to Avoid Surgery," presented by Carilion Clinic physicians.
  • "The Future of Brain Repair," presented by Carilion Clinic physicians.
  • "How to Avoid Shoulder and Knee Problems," presented by Carilion Clinic Sports Medicine physicians.

Each session allows for questions and answers with physicians.

Rebuilt by Carilion Classic Golf Tournament

Time: Registration at noon (boxed lunch provided); shotgun start at 1 p.m.

Location: Roanoke Country Club, 3360 Country Club Drive NW, Roanoke VA 24017

The tournament will be captain’s choice with four player teams. No minimum drive required. VSGA rules govern play, as modified by local rules. There will be gift bags and giveaways for every participant with the top prizes for the best three overall scores. Limited space is available.

Awards reception immediately following conclusion of tournament play.

"Motor vehicle crashes are the leading killer of children and 3 out of 4 car seats installed by parents and caregivers are not installed correctly."  Make sure yours is not one of them by attending a Car Seat Safety Check, which are held on the third (3rd) Thursday of each month and have a National Certified Technician educate you on how to keep your child safe!

Cholesterol Screening

Carilion Clinic is excited to provide a Cholesterol Screening to your Community.  This screening event will provide you a full Cholesterol Health Screeing with same day results.  

Screening will include:

  • Total Cholesterol
  • HDL/LDL Cholesterol
  • Triglycerides
  • Glucose

If participating in this Cholesterol Screening please be aware that it is recommended, but not required, that you fast twelve (12) hours prior to having your blood drawn.  Please make sure and drink plenty of water and take any prescribed medications as directed.  The Cholesterol check will be administered by a finger-stick.

Breastfeeding: Realities and Constraints

It’s no secret that breast milk is the best milk for babies. But what really happens after leaving the hospital? This event will feature Breastmilk, a 90-minute film showcasing vignettes of new mothers who share the social, economic and political factors influencing their choice to breastfeed beyond the first few days or weeks. The film reveals the realities, constraints, and opportunities for exclusive breastfeeding and is open to anyone who plays a role in supporting that, including parents-to-be, new moms, close family and friends, care takers.

A 30-45 minute panel discussion will follow, led and moderated by Bernice Hausman, Ph.D., a humanities professor at both Virginia Tech and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. The panel will consist of local parents, OB/GYN physicians, support staff and more.

Deep Brain Stimulation: Improving Quality of Life in Parkinson's Patients

Come and join Carilion Clinic Neurosurgeon, Dr. Gregory A. Howes, D.O., to learn more about Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for people who suffer from Parkinson's disease and/or Essential tremor.  DBS uses a surgically implanted medical device, similar to a Cardiac pacemaker, to deliver carefully controlled electrical stimulation to precisely targeted areas in the brain.
