Infant Massage Class

When
Thursday 10:00 am to 11:00 am
Where
Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, 2nd Fl. 101 Elm Ave. Rke., VA 24013f

After all the months of waiting and dreaming, it is exciting when your baby is finally born. It takes time and effort for parents to get to know their newborn, and time for the newborn to adjust to the new world.  Infant massage is one way to help make this process easier.  Parents have always loved touching and stroking their babies, and babies love to be soothed and cuddled. Part of a baby's emotional and neurological development comes from the interactions of touch and feelings of security it offers.
This is a one hour per week, 2 week infant massage course, taught by a certified infant massage trainer for infants one month to one year of age.  In this class, you will learn how to massage your infant to assist with bonding, constipation, crying and colic, sleep, teething, and communication.

The dates for this class are:

  • 06/15/17
  • 06/22/17

Beyond bonding, this course can also help with:

  • Stress relief (for babies and parents)
  • Growth and development
  • Gas
  • Symptoms of colic
  • Increasing parents’ confidence and sensitivity to baby’s signals and cues.
  • Weight gain and neurological development in premature babies.

Register by clicking here or call Carilion Clinic Direct at (540) 266-6000 or Toll-Free at (800) 422-8482.

Neurological disorders, their diagnosis and their management are often seend as a dark unnavicable corner of medicine. Interventions often appear as arbitary and/or mystical. We seek to demystify this world and “pull back the curtain” on modern, evidence based, acute and subacute neurological evaluation and care.

  1. Discuss key components to the neurological exam.
  2. Explore the formal interpretation of neurological imaging studies.
  3. Gain confidence with the initial management of acute and common neurological disorders.

Target Audience:
Physicians. Nurses, specialists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants who work with patients that are subject to neurosurgery and neurological needs.

Topics will include:

  • What to look for during a neurological patient evaluation
  • Neurological disasters
  • Interpreting radiologist findings in neurological images
  • Deep brain stimulation and movement disorders
  • Hardware in patients’ spines
  • Epilepsy
  • Brain tumors
  • Brain and spine case studies
