Our first patient art show will be held November 4 - December 15, 2016 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  This show is an initiative of the Dr. Robert L.A. Keeley Healing Arts Program, conducted in partnership with the National Arts Program®.

Registration through The National Arts Program® is now open through October 7th (deadline has been extended).  Register online and find out more at: or call 540-521-3355.

The following types of art will be accepted:

  • Painting (oil, acrylics)
  • Photography (black and white, color)
  • Sculpture
  • Craft (ceramic, glassworks, jewelry, woodcarving, fiber)
  • Works on paper (watercolor, pencil, ink, charcoal, pastel, marker, crayon, digital)

This show includes artwork from all ages and abilities with classifications of Youth, Teen, Adult Amateur, Adult Intermediate and Adult Professional.

This is a juried show and three (3) art professionals will determine the winners of (19) cash prizes totaling $3,100.  A reception to announce winners will be held on Tuesday, November 29th at 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  Thank you to First Citizens Bank for their contributing sponsorship.

Any patient* who received care from a Carilion provider at any Carilion location during 2015 or 2016 is eligible to participate.

*Excludes employees.  This art show is reserved for non-employee patients only.  
Employees are encouraged to participate in the annual spring Employee Art Show.

Portable Ultrasonography for the Primary Care Physician

Do you want to better understand how you can use ultrasonography to improve patient care? Join us for our Portable Ultrasonography for the Primary Care Physician Conference. This conference emphasizes hands-on training and uses lectures, live demonstrations and question and answer periods to enhance clinicians' ability to perform and interpret ultrasound examinations. Primary care, general internal medicine and family medicine physicians, and hospitalists, as well as physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, residents and fellows will benefit from this educational offering. Due to this unique hands-on experience, space is limited to the first 120 registrants.

Understanding and Supporting Children, Teens, Young Adults and Families after a Death

If you'd like to know more about how to understand and support families after a death, come hear from Donna Schuurman, who has worked with bereaved families for over 25 years through the first peer-support grief program in the country, The Dougy Center for Grieving Children and Families in Portland, Oregon. She will share what she's learned from the participants over these decades, integrated with research on what helps, and what hinders as youth and adults cope with the death of a family member. This is also open to and appropriate for anyone who is grieving a death in their family. No need to register ------- just show up!
