Carilion Clinic offers a support group for patients and families affected by Narcolepsy. We understand living with narcolepsy can make life difficult at times and that it can even cause feelings of isolation.

Join our Sleep Lab and Sleep Clinic teams to discuss the effects of living with narcolepsy and how many deal with this condition. A question and answer session with the experts to follow. Additional information will be available, including handouts on how to enhance sleep, how to get involved with your care, as well as frequently asked questions.

Road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children in the United States. Correctly used child safety seats can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent.

Studies show that 73 percent of car seats are not used or installed correctly. It takes only about 15 minutes for a certified child passenger safety technician to ensure your car seat is being used correctly, and it could save your child's life.

At this event, our nationally certified child passenger safety technicians can check your car seat to ensure it is installed correctly and answer questions.

There is no cost to attend, and no registration is required.

CARILION CLINIC INVITES YOU TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR SECOND IMMUNIZATION TOWN HALL

This roundtable discussion will focus on how well the Roanoke region is doing immunizing its children. Representatives from local school districts, the Virginia Department of Health and Carilion Clinic will join several parents to discuss the challenges faced by local and regional efforts.

Immunization Town Hall is open to the public and we invite your participation! Points of discussion will include:

»» Where are we now? Are our children immunized?
»» What impact is the immunization issue having on the Roanoke region? Specifically, on our schools?
»» What immunization programs are in place? How effective are they? What hurdles do they face?
»» What opportunities exist to increase the immunization rate?
»» How can organizations work together?
»» Where should we be in 5/10 years?

Learn about the basics of infant CPR in this educational class.  The class offers hands-on training and experience in infant CPR, but is not a certification class.  You will also learn how to keep your home safe for your child.  There are many hidden dangers in the home that can injure or kill a child.  This class will give you tips on what you can do to avoid these unnecessary incidents.

River's Mission Car Seat Safety and Heatstroke Awareness Day

River's Mission will be hosting a car seat safety and heatstroke awareness day in the parking lot at Advance Auto from 10:00 am till 3:00 pm.  River tragically lost her life after being left in a vehicle last summer.  This event is to promote awareness of what parents and caregivers can do to prevent this type of thing happening to their child.  There will also be other child safety advocates present and a car seat safety check from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
