Soft Surface Cycling Meet - Up

This program is designed for anyone looking to dust the cobwebs off that old bike or gain confidence riding on a non-paved surface. 

In this meet up style group you will utilize the smooth flat cinder trails at Waid Park to exercise at your own pace.  We will review some basic bicycle maintenance tips and discuss techniques for comfortable riding.  Don't have a bike? Ask about one of our loaner bikes compliments of Carilion Clinic.  Walkers are welcome in this safe, fun, outdoor group exercise program.

This event is Free and participants are required to wear a helmet.

Rocky Mount Guided Tree Walks

Research suggests that a connection to nature is biologically innate; as humans, we have an affinity for the natural world. Please join Carilion Clinic's Community Health Educator, Gail Nordhaus, for a series of guided tree walks around town.

Please plan to wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes.  Hats, Sunglasses and Sunscreen recommended!

This event is free, which includes complimentary, reusable, collapsible bottled water for each walker.

Tree Walk Descriptions:

- May 1st:  The Old Oak Trees
       Let's venture out and about in town in search of local species.  We will study the oak leaf to learn tree identification.

- June 5th: Magnificent Magnolias
        Historically, the tree before bees.  How are they pollinated?

- July 10th:  Alien Tree Species
         They may not be extraterrestrials, but they are out of this world interesting!

Body Basics (Senior Fitness)

Body Basics is a beginner level strengthening training session for Adult Seniors.  Includes beginner level exercises that can be modified for individuals with physical limitations.  Strengthening training is the core exercise!

The class is held for eight (8) weeks and each class lasts for one hour.  

Fee to participate: $10.00 for the full 8-week course.

Are you at risk for Type 2 Diabetes? Or have been told by a physician that you are pre-diabetic? If so, join Carilion Clinic and the Franklin County Library in a free 6-week Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Educational program.

The program features discussions led by Carilion Clinic Community Health Educator and R.N., Gail Nordhaus, a library loaned guidebook, wellness coaching, nutrition & exercise tips, recipes and more!

Attending all sessions is strongly encouraged!

2017 Carilion Clinic Hospice Franklin Card Party

Proceeds directly benefit terminally ill patients being treated by Carilion Clinic Hospice in Franklin County through the Patient Care Fund, which provides medication, oxygen, food, medical supplies, phone services and clothing.
