Virginia Health Care Foundation awards Carilion Clinic $75,000 grant to improve access to health insurance for children

The Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF) has awarded Carilion Clinic with a $75,000 Project Connect grant to support local outreach and enrollment efforts that will help families in Roanoke apply for Virginia’s state-sponsored health insurance programs for children (FAMIS and FAMIS Plus).

To a child, the start of summer vacation usually means three months of uninterrupted fun and exploration. For many educators and health care providers, however, the summertime brings a new list of concerns. The end of a school year marks a three-month hiatus from educational programming and, for many children, proper nutrition. This interruption in a child’s development has been coined the “summer slide.”
