Cancer Care

For Referring Doctors

At Carilion Clinic, our thoracic oncology program offers healthcare providers the opportunity for referral of patients with lung nodules, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and other cancers of the chest cavity that need diagnosis, treatment, consultation, or a second opinion.

We are committed to serving as an important resource for physician, patient, and family needs through timely consults, prompt patient appointments, and ongoing communication.

How We Can Help You

The thoracic oncology program is designed to evaluate and manage patients with the following:

  • An abnormal CXR or CT scan showing a nodule, mass, or unresolved pneumonia
  • Suspected or known lung cancer or esophageal cancer
  • A request for second opinion related to suspected or known lung cancer or esophageal cancer
  • At high risk for lung cancer and needing lung cancer screening

One phone call to our thoracic oncology coordinator from a physician initiates a prompt evaluation to determine the diagnosis and appropriate intervention. The thoracic oncology coordinator will work in partnership with the referring physician to develop a plan of care, including follow up.
