Artist-in-Residence

I enter Ms. K’s room. It’s dim, the TV is on, and she is in bed, resting with her eyes closed. The nurses have told me that she is blind and, sure enough, several signs with this information are posted in the room. I wonder if I should wake her. Ms. K is my first patient with the Artist-in-Residence program, and I’m hesitant. She’s recovering from surgery. I don’t want to be a bother.

She opens her eyes, so I introduce myself. “Would you like to make something with me?”
