Get in Stride by Walking with a Carilion Clinic Doctor

Numerous Carilion Clinic physicians are lacing up their walking shoes alongside the public in the "Physicians on Foot" weekly walking program.

The walk begins 8:30 a.m. each Saturday, either on the Roanoke River Greenway (April-October) or inside Tanglewood Mall (November-March)

Walking is an excellent form of exercise that can improve both cardiovascular health and stress level. In fact, many people find that walking can improve their overall mood.

The idea for the program came from David Sabgir, M.D., a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio who started "Just Walk", a non-profit program geared towards anyone interested in taking steps towards their health.

Physicians on Foot gives you the opportunity to get some quality exercise every weekend. Elizabeth Polk, M.D., one of the physicians on foot, discussed the benefits of the program.

"Carilion Clinic is very concerned about the health of its community," Polk said. "As doctors, we like to encourage our patients to exercise regularly, so we're combining that by having doctors come out to inspire patients to walk with them."
