Diagnosis of Pituitary Tumors

Patients suspecting of having a pituitary tumor require a fair amount of testing. An MRI scan of the brain is first and foremost. Patients with suspected tumors will require an evaluation by a neurosurgeon and an endocrinologist. An endocrinologist is an expert on the hormonal function of the body. The endocrinologist will order several hormonal blood tests including:

  • Prolactin
  • Cortisol
  • Follicle-stimulating hormone
  • Insulin growth factor
  • Testosterone
  • Thyroid hormone
