Carilion Clinic C.A.R.E.S.

Anticipating a surgical procedure can be stressful, especially if you don’t know exactly what to expect. At Carilion Clinic, we try to put your mind at ease by giving you as much information as possible to prepare you before your procedure day arrives.

To make it as easy as possible, we invite our patients in for a pre-surgical appointment at C.A.R.E.S., Carilion Assessment, Registration, and Education for Surgery center, located at the Carilion Clinic Medical Building, in Roanoke, Va. Once you arrive we will:

  • Review your health history
  • Go over surgery information and instruction
  • Complete any diagnostic testing your doctor has ordered (e.g. lab testing, EKGs, X-rays)

If your doctor has not made an appointment for you to come in to C.A.R.E.S., you may be contacted by phone to review your health history (or your child’s health history, if applicable). If you have not been contacted 48 hours before your procedure, please call (540) 853-0909 or toll free (866) 211-0161.

Getting ready for your surgical procedure

There are certain guidelines that must be followed prior to your surgery/procedure. These rules are put in place for your benefit and must be followed precisely to ensure you have a safe and effective treatment.

It is of utmost importance that you:

  • Leave all valuables (money, credit cards, jewelry) at home with the exception of your co-payment and insurance card, if applicable. Carilion Clinic will not be responsible for any lost or stolen valuables.
  • Contact C.A.R.E.S. prior to your day of surgery if you require the use of a wheelchair, walker, special devices, or special assistance upon arriving at the hospital.
