Internal, non-funded projects are research studies that are done on the principal investigator's own time. There is no money in these projects to purchase supplies or other items necessary for the project. Any research, outreach, training or evaluation project that is done on the PI's own time is considered an internal, non-funded project.

Complete the Research & Development Application to Conduct Research or QA/QI Initiatives Form on the Pre-Award Forms page.  If you will be accessing EPIC for the project, please also complete the PHI Access Request Form, which can be downloaded here. Once you submit your R&D application (you may do so via PDF email, fax, or hard copy) the project will be reviewed and you will receive an electronic R&D approval letter, which you will need to attach to your IRB application.  Once the IRB reviews and approves the project you may begin work on the study, unless your project requires EPIC access, to which the Security Governance Committee will grant the access following IRB approval.
