Clinical Outcomes

Clinical Outcomes

Share this:

How does one quantify the value of quality care? Standard measurements provide the raw data, which supplements the descriptions of quality initiatives at Carilion facilities. These numbers illustrate how success rates of various treatment plans are trending, therefore dictating success in terms of patient outcomes. And that is where the actual value of such data lies--the results of treatment. That's why Carilion considers clinical outcomes to be another factor of quality of care.

Core Measures

Carilion Clinic monitors an organization-wide set of baseline core measures to judge all hospitals in the system. The quantative value in these core measures may be difficult to translate to outcome data, but to our employees, they prove paramount in determining the level of care and clinical outcomes.

The core measures are reported quarterly from each Carilion facility, which allows tracking of improvement or decline, and comparison amongst peer facilities within the organization.

Core measure results are viewable in two ways:

  • Combined report for all Carilion Clinic facilities
    • As individual, facility-specific reports:
    • Carilion Medical Center (includes CRMH, CRCH)
    • Carilion New River Valley Medical Center
    • Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital
    • Carilion Giles Community Hospital
    • Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital
    • Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital
