And that is where the actual value of such data lies--the results of treatment. That's why Carilion considers clinical outcomes to be another factor of quality of care.
Carilion Clinic monitors an organization-wide set of baseline core measures to judge all hospitals in the system. The quantative value in these core measures may be difficult to translate to outcome data, but to our employees, they prove paramount in determining the level of care and clinical outcomes.
The core measures are reported quarterly from each Carilion facility, which allows tracking of improvement or decline, and comparison amongst peer facilities within the organization.
