Preventative Care & Wellness

Eating right, exercising, maintaining a healthy weight, and not smoking are the simple ways you can reduce your risk of chronic diseases as you age—but we know this is often easier said than done.

That’s why our Carilion primary care providers make preventive care and wellness a top priority. Depending on your age, gender and individual risk factors (such as family history), our primary care providers will order periodic health screenings for you—because early diagnosis offers the best odds of a cure.

Our Community Health Education programs offer a wide variety of classes, events, and support groups to help create and maintain a healthy community. Topics include nutrition, exercise, cardiovascular wellness, women’s health, cancer prevention, and many more.

Join Our “Physicians on Foot”

You always hear healthcare professionals lecturing you to get more exercise, but how many actually walk the walk with you?

One of our most exciting programs is “Physicians on Foot.” Dozens of our Carilion doctors take turns leading two-mile walks on the Roanoke River Greenway or at the Tanglewood Mall. Regular walking is a safe and easy way to improve your cardiovascular health, trim your waistline, improve your mood, and stay strong and fit.
