If your child is admitted to the hospital you can expect to meet many helpful people during the hospital stay, all focused on giving him/her great care in a comfortable environment, including specialized physicians called pediatric hospitalists.
Our highly-skilled pediatric hospitalists are pediatricians who are specially trained to care for children in the hospital. Hospitalists primarily take care of children who are admitted to the pediatric unit but also may be involved in a child’s care in the pediatric intensive care unit and/or the emergency room.
Hospitalists don’t replace your child’s pediatrician or other specialists but rather oversee their care during their time in the hospital, communicating regularly and often with the other doctors who are involved. When your child is discharged from the hospital, the hospitalist will make sure your pediatrician is fully informed on all aspects of the hospital stay and any instructions for further care, if needed.
Our hospitalists are experts in caring for infants, children and adolescents.
Hospitalists coordinate care with other pediatricians, family practitioners, subspecialty physicians and general surgeons. Other members of the inpatient care team include nurses, social workers, chaplains, child life specialists, dietitians and therapists.
