Pediatric Orthopaedics

A child’s bones and muscles are very different from those of an adult. Growing children with orthopaedic issues, including certain types of birth defects and illnesses, along with injuries and infections, require the specialized care of doctors trained in treating young patients.

Carilion Clinic is proud to have western Virginia’s only clinic offering dedicated pediatric orthopaedic services. Our nurse specialists, physician assistants, pediatric physical therapists, psychologists, and other specialty physicians work closely together on all aspects of care. We use many techniques, including observation of growth, physical therapy, braces, splints, and surgery to treat various conditions:

  • Scoliosis and spinal deformities

  • Hip disorders

  • Musculoskeletal oncology

  • Clubfoot

  • Injuries (trauma)

  • Leg length discrepancies

  • Cerebral palsy

  • Muscular dystrophy

  • Spina bifida

  • Amputations

  • Limb deformity

  • Sports injuries

  • Congenital hand deformities

  • Hand and upper extremity fractures

  • Tendon and nerve injuries
