This is a type of lower spinal cord injury in which patients usually experience pain, weakness, and a loss of sensation in the legs, as well as loss of bladder and bowel control, and numbness around the genitalia. It is often the result of compression of nerves that pass through the lower spine from a large herniated disc, bone fragment, or a tumor. Immediate surgery is typically required.
