Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital
At Carilion Clinic Children’s Hospital (CCCH) we’re here to give the children in our community what they need to grow up healthy. If your child needs medical care due to a birth defect, illness or injury, there’s no need to travel to receive excellent care. Our full service, 92–bed “hospital within a hospital” provides medical care, including specialized intensive care, to neonatal, pediatric and adolescent patients. Our skilled staff includes more than 350 medical professionals specially trained in caring for infants and children.
We’re proud to be home to the third largest neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in the state of Virginia.
We have the region’s first emergency department devoted to caring for children who are acutely ill or injured.
We have the only pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) in western Virginia, as well as one of the largest dedicated pediatric in–patient hospital units in southwest Virginia.
We recognize that our young patients come in all shapes and sizes, and each is a unique individual. Everything from the equipment and technology used by our doctors and nurses to our décor is designed specifically with children in mind. We believe that families do the best job of helping a child heal well and we encourage your involvement in your child’s care to ensure that recovery is as quick and pain–free as possible.
Ned in a hallway
Say hello to Ned, a new face here at Carilion Clinic Children’s Hospital. A kid at heart, Ned loves meeting kids and parents and guiding them through their stay to help them know what to expect when they visit our hospital.
In addition to using his wheels, Ned can get around by plugging in and jumping from one machine to another, traveling through the hospital’s vast electrical system to go from floor to floor, room to room faster than any doctor! Being so plugged in, he knows what's going on with each patient, and he has a great way of explaining treatments in a kid–friendly way that anyone can understand.
Ned is good friends with all of the high–tech machines in the hospital, from large X–ray machines to small handheld devices, so he can explain to kids what these devices do and how they work. Those clunking noises the MRI makes? Just ask Ned, he can tell you all about it.
You’ll be seeing more and more of Ned as he makes his way throughout the Children’s Hospital, our local offices, and even events throughout the Valley. So make sure to say hello — he’ll be happy to see you.
