Camp Too Sweet

Camp Too Sweet is a five-day, four-night, traditional camp for children and teens living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. The week is filled iwth fun and adventure, while helping children accept diabetes as a part of daily living.

Great counselors, supported by licensed health professionals, provide an unforgettable week filled with group games, nature, crafts, music and singing, campfires, swimming, low-ropes group challenges, creek exploration, hiking trails, polar bear swims, night activities, and educational sessions on diabetes care. Plus, campers who are junior high age and older get a chance to experience the high-ropes course! All campers will enjoy a day of adventure tubing on the James River (see tubing description).

The medical team monitors campers’ diabetes care 24 hours a day, and the camp provides delicious and healthy meals and daily snacks. Camp Too Sweet is a memorable week of fun, adventure, and healthy living. The children are sure to develop lasting friendships.

River Tubing Description

It’s the best new way to beat the summer heat! Campers will enjoy a fun and relaxing day of river tubing on the beautiful and historic James River, just six miles from Camp Bethel. Let the river do the work as we ride the gentle current through gorgeous scenery over riffles and mini-rapids while keeping cool — splashing, swimming, and playing. Get creative with your float style or team up with your counselors and new friends to build an ultimate tube-blob-flotilla!

All tubes, personal flotation devices, and leadership included.

Rated: easy.

Cost: $380 per camper

Cost includes a $25 non-refundable application fee due at time of registration. Space is limited and financial assistance is available to qualified applicants.

Come meet and talk with other new moms-to-be at the Baby Basics Moms’ Clubs.  This is a support and education group that covers everything you can expect when you’re expecting.  It’s a fun, informative, and free program you can attend as often as you like. You are more than welcome to bring a family member or friend with you.

Prepared Childbirth Education

You and your support partner are provided with the information and skills needed to approach labor and birth fully prepared.  This six-week series addresses topics such as breathing and relaxation techniques, the labor partner's role, variations of labor, the labor and birth process, adjustment to parenthood and many other details of labor and birth.  Plan to attend this class in the beginning of your third trimester.

Infant CPR/Safety

Learn about the basics of infant CPR in this educational class.  The class offers hands-on training and experience in infant CPR, but is not a certification class.  You will also learn how to keep your home safe for your child.  There are many hidden dangers in the home that can injure or kill a child.  This class will give you tips on what you can do to avoid these unnecessary incidents.

Breastfeeding 101

Breastfeeding is a learned behavior for both mom and baby.  During this class, a certified lactation consultant provides the information you need to decide if breastfeeding is the right choice for you and your new baby.  If you have already decided to breastfeed, this class will provide basic instructions on breastfeeding techniques and benefits.  Other breastfeeding topics will also be discussed.
