Low Intervention Childbirth Education

This course provides the same class topics as our Prepared Childbirth course, but has an increased emphasis on labor coping and support techniques, with a reduced emphasis on the use of pain medication in labor.  Plan to attend this class in the beginning of your third trimester.

Baby Basics Moms' Club

Breastfeeding & Old Wives Tales

Come meet and talk with other new moms-to-be at the Baby Basics Moms’ Clubs.  This is a support and education group that covers everything you can expect when you’re expecting.  It’s a fun, informative, and free program you can attend as often as you like. You are more than welcome to bring a family member or friend with you.

**Please note that this program is not intended to take the place of our Prepared Childbirth Education class.  All parents are encouraged to also attend the Prepared Childbirth Education class, which covers more comprehensive information.

**Inclement Weather: We follow the Roanoke County School schedule - the Morning Club will be cancelled if schools are delayed or closed.  The Evening Club will be cancelled if schools have early dismissal or are closed.

Prepared Childbirth Education

You and your support partner are provided with the information and skills needed to approach labor and birth fully prepared.  This six-week series addresses topics such as breathing and relaxation techniques, the labor partner's role, variations of labor, the labor and birth process, adjustment to parenthood, and many other details of labor and birth.  Plan to attend this class in the beginning of your third trimester.  Taught by a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE).

Breastfeeding 101

Breastfeeding is a learned behavior for both mom and baby.  During this class, a certified lactation consultant provides the information you need to decide if breastfeeding is the right choice for you and your new baby.  If you have already decided to breastfeed, this class will provide basic instructions on breastfeeding techniques and benefits.  Other breastfeeding topics will also be discussed.
