Community Access Resource Expo (C.A.R.E.)

When: 

Wednesday 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Where: 

Essig Recreation Center | 295 Technology Drive | Rocky Mount, VA

An opportunity for Franklin County residence to meet health, wellness, and social support resource organizations and learn about community programs available in Franklin County.

Planning partners:  United Way of Franklin County, Franklin County Parks and Recreation, Healthy Community Action Team (H.C.A.T.), and Carilion Clinic.

Stroke Screening

When: 

Saturday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm

Where: 

Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital | 180 Floyd Ave. | Rocky Mount, VA

Carilion Clinic will be offering free stroke screenings to include:  blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol (lipid panel), lower extremity pressure check (Ankle-brachial index), carotid ultrasound, same day results reviewed with a physician, and stroke prevention education will be available.

Pre-registration is required to determine eligibility by calling Carilion Clinic at 540-266-6000.

Smooth Sailing 16th Annual Card Party and Luncheon

Wednesday 10:00 am to 2:30 pm

The Water's Edge Country Club | 1825 Waters Edge Dr. | Penhook, VA

Carilion Clinic Hospice, the Volunteer Council of Franklin County, and the Williard Companies present the 16th Annual Smooth Sailing Card Party and Luncheon.  Proceeds directly benefit terminally ill patients being treated by Carilion Clinic Hospice in Franklin County through the Patient Care Fund, which provides medication, oxygen, food, medical supplies, phone services, and clothing.

The event includes a luncheon and door prizes. A 50/50 drawing and silent auction are available for those wishing to participate. For ticket information, call 540-489-6503.

Colon Cancer Health Presentation

Westlake Library | 84 Westlake Rd., Suite 109 | Hardy, VA

Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in men and women in the U.S.  Join Carilion Clinic to learn more about colon cancer prevention, screeing, and treatment options.

Community Health Walk and Talk Program

When: 

Saturday 10:00 am

Where: 

Booker T. Washington National Monument Park | 12130 Booker T. Washington Hwy. | Hardy, VA

Carilion Clinic's Health Walk partnership with Booker T. Washington National Monument Park and the National Park Services Healthy Parks and Healthy People initiative begins in April.  Each walk will be held on the second Saturday of each month and will begin at 10:00 a.m. 

The park's 1.5 mile Jack-O-Lantern Branch trail meanders along Gills Creek through a peaceful wooded area and is rated easy with some mild eleveation.  Each walk will include some discussion about a halth related topic, led by a Carilion Clinic '"trail guide."  Join us for this fun event!

Colon Health and Colon Cancer Prevention
