Job Shadows

Observing Healthcare Professionals at Carilion Clinic

The Job Shadow program is designed to provide students with opportunities to learn about health careers while observing staff and patient interaction. Participants do not take part in hands-on care as part of this experience.

Eligibility

We are currently unable to accomodate observation requests for Physical Therapy at the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. Please e-mail visitingstudentaffairs@carilionclinic.org after October 1, 2013 to check the status of availability in this area.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

All observer applicants must have completed a Tuberculosis screening within the last 12 months as outlined in the application.

**Hospital visitation policies can impact the Job Observation Program.

Shadow Sessions

Students will shadow in their specified area of interest for up to a maximum of three sessions. Each session is typically 4-8 hours.

Missed Job Shadow opportunities may be rescheduled but will count towards the maximum of three sessions.

How to Apply

Those interested in participating in the Job Shadow program should complete an Observation Application.

Completed applications must be received at least 2 weeks prior to the requested shadow date. These should be returned by mail or fax to Visiting Student Affairs, PO Box 13367, Roanoke, VA 24033-3367; Fax (540) 983-1189.

You will be contacted by e-mail once a Job Shadow opportunity has been identified for you.
