Training Skilled Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Physicians
Offering diverse experiences in private and public settings at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Catawba State Hospital and Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare, the Carilion Clinic - Virginia Tech Carilion Psychiatry Training Program has become well-known as a high-caliber site for clinical training and research while establishing itself as a leader among psychiatry residency programs.
The concept of strength in general medical principles and education continues to be a core standard of the program. The program remains committed to developing well-rounded and thoroughly competent psychiatrists.
More than 50 full-time, salaried faculty members, from some of the foremost institutions in the country, comprise the main teaching staff of the Carilion Clinic - Virginia Tech Carilion Psychiatry Residency. By training residents in all aspects of contemporary psychiatry, the program develops each resident’s potential and core competencies, while remaining flexible in meeting individual needs.
The program offers eight positions each year. To complement the rotational curriculum in psychiatry, medicine and neurology in the PGY1 year, residents are also given the opportunity to manage the total healthcare needs of a subset of patients in a primary care clinic longitudinally throughout their training.
The Carilion Clinic - Virginia Tech Carilion Graduate Medical Education program is currently offering child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric, and addiction psychiatry fellowships.
