Professional Staff Affairs

Welcome to OPSA! We welcome you to the Office of Professional Staff Affairs (OPSA) at Carilion Clinic. We aim to promote excellence among our physicians by providing them with a variety of resources and services designed to support them in their clinical, teaching and research areas. We strive to consistently offer innovative and high quality professional development activities that are effective, relevant, timely and accessible. We encourage you to take a look at what we do and the types of programs we offer to our physicians. We welcome a cross fertilization of ideas from colleagues doing similar things. So please feel free to contact us and promote our shared learning. Who are we? In 2006, Carilion Health System became Carilion Clinic in an effort to provide more coordinated and cost-effective care to the residents of Southwest Virginia and surrounding areas. Carilion Clinic employs more than 600 physicians in a multi-specialty group practice and eight not-for-profit hospitals.

The Office of Professional Staff Affairs was established to provide programs and services to physicians, in order that they acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to work, and indeed flourish, in this newly integrated physician organization. Our Objectives We develop and implement professional development activities in order to: Promote the principles and values set forth in the Carilion Clinic Physicians Vision Blueprint; Promote individual development and advancement that builds and expands professional knowledge; skills and attitudes; Develop changes in behavior that lead to practice improvements and patient service excellence; Enable physicians to embrace personal meaning for their work.
