PGY 2 Critical Care Residency Program

Program Description

One PGY 1 residency graduate will progress through a series of customized rotations and longitudinal learning experiences during the 12-month period. Rotations include:

  • Cardiology
  • Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Medical Critical Care
  • Neonatal Intensive Care
  • Surgical Critical Care
  • Longitudinal
    • Hospital Pharmacy Practice
    • Chief Resident Responsibilities
    • Medication Use
    • Professional Presentations
    • Research

Our rotations are completed as a mix of 5-week focused blocks and longitudinal experiences. Other specific elective rotations may be available - depending on the resident(s) interests. Residents will have a service commitment of every 3rd weekend.

Application Requirements

We are participating in the PhORCAS residency application process. (PhORCAS: Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service). This is a new service which is being launched during October/November 2012. PhORCAS is the result of a partnership between the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and Liason International. It will also incorporate registration with the National Matching Service (NMS).

Our application for the PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency program requires submission of the following information through PhORCAS:

  1. Letter of Intent
    1. This letter must be personalized to Carilion and include answers to the following two questions.
      1. Why do you want to complete a PGY2 Residency in Critical Care?
      2. Why do you want to complete your residency training at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital?
  2. Curriculum vitae
  3. A minimum of three (3) letters of recommendation
  4. Academic transcripts
  5. Completed applications will be due by January 8th, 2013. Resident applicants will be notified by January 23rd, 2013, regarding an offer for an on-site interview.
