Continuing Medical Education

Educational Opportunities for Physicians at Carilion Clinic Carilion Clinic has a long-standing tradition of providing high quality continuing medical education (CME) to physicians. Our team recognizes the importance of offering continuous learning opportunities to physicians throughout their careers. To this end, the Carilion Clinic’s CME Program provides educational offerings, introduces new technology, educational techniques and updated information so that physicians may maintain, improve and acquire new knowledge and skills. Ultimately, CME favorably impacts the quality of healthcare by serving as a mechanism for continuous improvement.

Accreditation

Carilion Clinic’s CME Program is accredited by the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) to provide AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. We offer a broad range of CME opportunities to reach primary care physicians, specialists and sub-specialists.

Requirements

Carilion Clinic and the Virginia State Board of Medicine requires certification of 60 hours every two years for license renewal; 30 hours must be AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and the remaining 30 hours can be either Category 1 or Category 2.

Participation

Anyone can attend a CME educational interventional program, which range from one-hour weekly conferences to one and two day conferences. However, please keep in mind that CME is specifically designed for physicians and other ancillary healthcare personnel that are required to have CME for licensing. See the CME calendar for a listing of current offerings.

Application

Please contact Carilion Clinic's CME Program if you are planning an educational intervention and would like to receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. The lead-time for turning in a completed application to the CME Office is two months. See the CME application under Forms for more information.

Cost

Carilion-employed physicians may attend all educational activities at no cost. For non-Carilion physicians, most one-hour activities are free and major one/two day activities usually involve a minimal cost.
