Inpatient and Outpatient Experience in the Carilion Clinic - Virginia Tech Carilion Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship
To fulfill our mission of providing a broad training experience, the fellowship involves hands-on, supervised work in both inpatient and outpatient settings. A special part of our training is the Diagnostic Assessment Team, which includes representatives of child and adolescent psychiatry, child psychology and child therapy.
Challenging or instructive cases are referred from other clinics for a comprehensive, interdisciplinary perspective. Direct participation in the interview, as well as video-relayed observation of experienced professionals provides for an extraordinary training experience as well as for practice in collaboration.
Course curricula include contemporary, up-to-date training in Development, Psychopathology, and Systems of Practice. Cultural Psychiatry, Ethics, Forensics, and Psychotherapy Didactics are other, standard parts of our Fellowship.
Special learning experiences are the twice per month Psychiatry Grand Rounds, scheduled Grand Rounds in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Journal Club. Fellows also participate once per week in the Neurodevelopmental Clinic, extending the training experience to Developmental Pediatrics.
