Caring for your skin is not just about how you look; it’s key to good health. As your body’s largest organ your skin serves many important functions, including covering your internal organs, shielding you from infection and regulating your body temperature. Our Carilion Clinic dermatology team provides expertise in keeping your skin (along with your hair and nails) healthy.
Our dermatologists are highly focused on preventing skin cancer, as well as providing screening, tests and early diagnosis for all forms of skin cancer, including melanoma. Our dermatology team also cares for common skin problems affecting people of all ages, including acne, rosacea, and moles, along with diagnosing and treating more complex disorders, including scleroderma, psoriasis and shingles.
The treatments we provide are safe, effective and state-of-art.
Blue light therapy is available to treat actinic keratosis, a particular pre-cancerous skin lesion. We use state of the art narrow band ultraviolet light to treat psoriasis, vitiligo and other less common skin conditions. To remove or improve the appearance of rosacea, birthmarks and unwanted blood vessels, we use a pulsed dye laser, which painlessly destroys the unwanted blemishes while leaving the surrounding healthy tissue intact.
Mohs micrographic surgery, which we perform, provides the highest cure rate of any procedure for skin cancer. We also provide a variety of cosmetic procedures to help you look as good as you feel. Please call us at 540-581-0170.
