Where do you work?

“Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Carilion New River Valley Medical Center Rehab Administration”

What inspires your work here at Carilion?

“Being part of the area’s largest and most comprehensive medical entity. The camaraderie created by working with so many talented people who put the patient care at the helm and appreciate diversity. Our culture of a holistic team approach, including support, inspires folks to make better choices for healthier lifestyles. It is equally available for all the communities...as well as...our own employees.”

What motivates you to do your job well?

“Our patient outcomes. To observe all the positive changes in the lives of those we serve and then see how that makes us learn and grow too. My team of motivated, caring professionals shows our patients every day why they chose their profession—they listen, and they care.”

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

“Being part of a leadership group and therapy group that make changes for positive impacts on systems to enhance the quality and value for those we serve. The joy that comes from observing patients overcome barriers to function that they thought they would never face, and didn't think they could (but then we believed in them!).”

What is it about our benefits that make a difference in your life?

“The many choices, the abundance of expert educational opportunities housed right within our very own colleges and system. For example, I am working on my MHA from a Carilion-sponsored grant, and a lot of the materials are the very components that Carilion Clinic is engaged in as well – medical homes, VTC, etc.”
