We're wired!

According to results from the 2014 Most Wired Survey published in July’s Hospitals & Health Networks magazine, Carilion has once again been named one of the nation’s Most Wired health systems.

In health care, being "wired" means the ability to share information, allowing providers and patients to have the information they need to promote good health and make informed decisions. For Carilion, it is about improving health and promoting health literacy in the region.

“This is the 11th time—and the sixth year in a row—that we have earned this designation, which shows the skill of our Technology Services Group (TSG) as well as our continued commitment to using technology to improve the health of the communities we serve,” said Kay Hix, vice president of TSG. “We are humbled and honored.”

Rich Umbdenstock, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association says, “Hospitals, their clinicians and their communities are doing tremendous work to enhance their IT systems in ways that support care and delivery improvement and patient engagement goals.”

This year’s survey also covered the development of new models and payment from the IT point of view. As healthcare delivery moves to a value-based system, it will require more and better use of data analytics, care coordination and population health management.

The results of the survey are in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks magazine.
