Of course you do. Everyone does, at least occasionally.
I know that I certainly need one, and am delighted that I am about to start my one week “family” vacation.
A time to enjoy the grandkids, who live too far away for me to visit as much as I would like.
A time to enjoy with my husband, without the daily stresses of routine life. A time to enjoy with my grown children, and talk about their lives and ours, and play games, and just hang out.
But what else? Is all that I listed above “enough”?
Certainly there are activities we look forward to, such as playing board games, exploring nature, enjoying the ocean breezes. But there is more.
Vacation is a time for renewal—on a physical as well as a spiritual level.
I encourage you all to drink deeply the experiences you have during your own “vacation”. Let those experiences and feelings wash through you. Let them push out some of the stress and anxiety you have been feeling lately. Take a deep breath and really ENJOY your family, friends, pets or alone time. Live in those moments, so you have lots of little memories to bring home with you, to keep you grounded when you are back at home, work, school, whatever.
I am perceived as a very serious person.
And I am, most of the time. I take my work seriously. I also take seriously my “job” as mother, wife, grandmother, friend. But on vacation I let my silly side out more than usual. I don’t really care what people think of me. I will sip my coffee in the morning listening to the birds. I will annoy my kids with naming different birds, and telling them stuff they don’t want to know. I will spoil the grandkids. I will ignore dirt. I may not do a lot of cooking. Or I may cook all day. Whatever I do, I will treasure the memories of those days, and hope that those sharing the experience will treasure them too.
I may not write another post for a while.
Or I may write daily, if the spirit moves me.
