Carilion Clinic - Riverside

Riverside Center

Another Move in the Right Direction

Carilion Clinic is making a move toward better healthcare. By placing our physicians together in a central location, they can work collaboratively to improve care and outcomes. That’s just one of the ways we’re putting the patient at the center of our organization.

Moving Toward More Comprehensive Care

The Riverside Center on Carilion Clinic’s Roanoke campus has undergone many changes in an effort to provide more coordinated, comprehensive care for patients. Located at the corner of Reserve Ave. and Jefferson St., the center has been an ongoing construction site to accommodate Carilion’s needs as it evolves into a clinic organization.

The latest addition to the Riverside Center is 3 Riverside, which opened in September 2009. It will house orthopaedic, internal medicine, rheumatology, gastroenterology, neurosurgery, physical medicine, neurology, general and breast surgery, and trauma surgery physicians all under one roof. By placing these physicians from different areas together in a central location, they can work collaboratively to improve care and patient outcomes.

Building Features

Some notable features of the building include a café, Riverview Café, for grab-and-go items located on the main level and Health Information Centers located in patient waiting areas. These computer stations contain health information including an audio library, clinical wizards, health news, interactive tools and a video library.

Another interesting feature is the design. The 3 Riverside building is currently undergoing certification to become a LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certified building by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED is an internationally known green building certificate that addresses six areas related to green building: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation in design. LEED-certified buildings are designed to reduce waste sent to landfills, conserve water and energy, lower operating costs, reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions, increase asset value, provide a healthier environment, and demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
