Internal Medicine Residency
Thank you for your interest in the Carilion Clinic Virginia Tech Carilion Internal Medicine Residency. We invite you to explore our web site and to see why our clinic-model, university-affiliated program is a unique and challenging place to train.
The mission of the Carilion Clinic VTC Internal Medicine Residency is to promote excellence in medical education and patient care. Our vision is that every resident in our training program will become a gifted clinician, well-prepared for subspecialty training, hospital medicine, academic medicine, or private practice. Additionally, we embrace Carilion's mission, values and guiding principles.
Carilion Clinic provides primary care to a local population of 250,000 people while serving as the region's only tertiary care, level I trauma center for over one million residents of southwestern Virginia. Our state of the art hospital is the second-largest in Virginia. Our outstanding faculty have dedicated their careers to internal medicine education and have appointments at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine; many have affiliate appointments at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). Currently, Carilion Clinic is in the midst of an exciting transformation into a patient-centered, physician-lead, university-affiliated multidisciplinary clinic. As part of this process, Carilion Clinic has partnered with Virginia Tech to form the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Set to welcome its first class in the fall of 2010, the school has a research focus at the core of its academic mission. Not only will this endeavor round out Carilion Clinic's transformation to a clinic model but will also provide the Internal Medicine Residency with exciting growth opportunities.
We recognize that a sense of balance between professional training and social and personal growth is fundamental to the success of residency training. Our program is nestled between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains. Roanoke blends small town charm with big city amenities. Recreational, cultural, historical and social opportunities abound. Neighborhoods are safe and friendly, schools are excellent, and the cost of living is low. We believe that Roanoke is an exceptional place to work and live.
Obtaining fellowships, academic positions, or desirable private or hospitalist practices are the norm for our graduates. Explore our website. Compare our program with others. We are quietly confident of our ability to meet your educational and personal goals, and we anticipate the opportunity to help you. Please contact us should you like more information.
