Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
The Carilion Clinic Children’s Hospital offers the only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in southwest Virginia.
The PICU provides specialized medical and nursing care for infants and children up to 18 years old who are critically ill or injured, and is also a haven for post-operative patients who have undergone complex pediatric surgical procedures.
To ensure the best healing environment, families are welcome to stay with patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at CCCH

Visitors
At CCCH, parents/primary caregivers are not seen as visitors, but as integral members of the care team. Parents are welcome to stay with their child as long as they want and may come and go freely. If a parent is unable to stay with the child, another adult family member may stay with the child instead.
Other family and friends may visit anytime. They must be at least 12 years old and in good health. Family and friends may also visit parents in the family waiting room at any time. Please check with your child’s nurse if you have questions concerning visitation guidelines.
