Why is specialty wound care important?

Statistics show there is a tremendous need for specialized wound care in the United States.  In fact, each year some 6 million Americans suffer from problem wounds caused by diabetes, circulatory problems and other health conditions.

What types of wounds does Carilion Clinic treat?

Any patient with a wound that has not begun to heal in two weeks, or has not healed completely in six weeks, may benefit from Carilion Clinic’s Wound Healing Center.  We treat wounds that result from a number of conditions, including:

  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Acute wounds, including burns
  • Surgical wounds
  • Traumatic wounds
  • Neuropathic ulcers (foot ulcers)
  • Osteomyelitis (bone infection)
  • Vasculitis (blood vessel inflammation)
  • Peristomal skin irritations (ostomy wounds)
  • Other chronic, non-healing wounds
