Trauma and Fracture Care
The orthopaedic team at Carilion Clinic works closely with the Emergency Department to make sure fracture cases resulting from trauma have the greatest possible chance for successful recovery.
While many fractures usually go on to heal, trauma cases often require additional specialization because of the complicated breaks and the loss of skin and muscle resulting from the trauma.

- Fractures in the elderly

- Sciatica nerve dysfunctions
- Smashed fingers
- Spinal/neck injuries

After diagnosis, Carilion Clinic’s orthopaedic team will recommend a course of treatment and rehabilitation—or perform surgery, if necessary. Trauma-related treatments include:
- Repair with metal plates or rods
