A licensed oncology counselor is available to provide counseling sessions for you and your family. We also offer special sessions on pain management, stress relief and relaxation.
Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist: (540) 853-0360
Case management is provided by a skilled oncology nurse who helps plan for services that may be needed after discharge. You may be referred to community agencies for financial aid, home care help and support programs.
Spiritual Care
A staff of clinically trained chaplains are available to help address your spiritual needs during hospitalization.
Chaplains can offer support in dealing with concerns and fears about illness, injury, diagnosis and treatment. They can also pray with you, assist you in dealing with grief and loss, and connect you with clergy in your own faith tradition.

Patient and Family Resource Education
Provides books, pamphlets and videos about cancer and ways to cope. Also, we may be able to refer you to other resources.

Nutritional Counseling: (540) 981-7552
Sound nutrition is essential during cancer treatment. The Cancer Center has an oncology dietitian who is available to provide nutritional counseling to patients receiving cancer treatment or services. Nutritional counseling focuses on teaching patients and caregivers how to manage symptoms related to the side effects of treatment including: appetite loss, difficulty swallowing, altered taste, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and dry or sore mouth.
Oncology Volunteers
Volunteers are very special people who are available to provide practical and emotional support to patients, families and caregivers during treatment visits. They often visit with patients and families during the hospital stay, providing companionship and support. Many of our volunteers are cancer survivors and truly understand the cancer experience.

Managing Hair Loss
For many people, hair loss is one of the most difficult experiences of cancer treatment. At Expressions!, our caring image consultant provides full hair care, wig and turban services and offers suggestions on individual styling options for beauty and comfort. It is important to remember that everyone's experience is different, so it pays to become informed about how your particular treatment affects hair loss.
